4 Essentials for Your 2020 Marketing Plan

For many organizations, strategic planning season is well underway for next year. This means that finalizing your marketing plan and budget is not far behind. With so much focus on digital channels, it’s easy to overlook some of the bigger picture items that can help drive your business forward.

Here are a few marketing must-haves as you plan for growth in 2020 and beyond:

1. KEEP YOUR BRAND FRESH

Your brand isn’t just your logo or name, it encompasses everything consumers think about you. Is your brand still telling the story of who you are effectively? An outdated website or an old-fashioned logo may not be the story you want to tell in 2020. Take some time to evaluate what your brand is saying – and adjust, if needed – as you plan for next year.

2. RELATIONSHIPS ARE STILL KING

While your digital channels continue to grow in importance, human interactions still carry a lot of weight and are key to building long-term relationships with consumers. Does your team have the tools they need to be successful? Internal communications, online resources and building excitement through contests for staff can make or break a marketing campaign.

3. BRANCHES & BUILDINGS SPEAK TOO

When you pull up to your local branch or office, what does it say? Consumers may visit in person less often, but when they do arrive it’s more important than ever to make a good impression. Take time to ensure your physical presence is as warm and welcoming as your online and phone channels. After all, you need to make sure first-time visitors (aka new customers/members) want to come back.

4. THERE’S STILL A PLACE FOR TRADITIONAL CHANNELS

There’s no doubt marketing spend has shifted, and with good reason. Social targeting, Geo-fencing and other options can make your online dollars go further than ever before. Yet even in this increasingly digital world, there is still room for some traditional advertising. As younger consumers get better at “tuning out” digital ads, strategic use of well-designed traditional media such as outdoor ads, can help you diversify your mix and break through the clutter.
